Biodiversity action plan

Green terminal

EDGE certification

E RTG

As an integral part of Africa Global Logistics Green Terminal* label, the Timor Port construction project was designed from the outset to take account of environmental issues. Africa Global Logistics has carried out an environmental impact study, the follow-up of which will enable the implementation of an action plan aimed at significantly reducing the ecological footprint of its activities.

  • Thus, in April 2022, Timor Port launched the mangrove conservation area in Tibar Bay. Together with its local partner, the NGO KFF (Konservasaun Flora no Fauna), they planted the first 500 trees in this conservation area. The launching of this mangrove conservation zone is part of their action plan for biodiversity. Timor Port will thus plant 3.5 hectares of mangroves which corresponds to a total of 18 000 trees. It is also a question of ensuring the protection of a 20 hectares area of mangroves in the immediate vicinity of the port. At the same time, Timor Port is finalizing its program for the rehabilitation and conservation of the sea grass beds and the creation of a protection zone for sea turtles.
In total, nearly 23 hectares of seabed will be protected.
Timor Port is also in the final negotiation phase for the purchase of carbon credits.
  • GREEN TERMINAL
  • In June 2022, the company obtained EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) “Level 2 – Advanced” certification.
Part of AGL Green Terminal label, this certification covers all of its buildings as well as some of its technical installations. It attests to the energy (direct and intrinsic materials) and water savings that will be achieved.
In total, Timor Port will achieve over 40% energy savings on the part relating to the construction of the infrastructures. This is because, from the design stage, the elements chosen for the construction have resulted in energy savings of between 41% and 70%, water savings of between 29% and 42%, and embodied energy savings in materials of between 38% and 70%.
  • Timor Port’s equipment is not to be outdone. The STS and RTG are state of the art, incorporating a state-of-the-art control system and a new generation of power supply system that significantly reduces CO2 emissions and energy consumption. The rubber tyres they are equipped with ensure a low maintenance rate, which also increases the long-term durability of these machines.
